Wondrous! Marvelous!
The teachings of the insentient are inconceivable.
If you listen with the ears, you won’t understand.
When you hear with the eyes, then you will know.

Zen Master Tōzan

Mahayana Buddhism has traditionally been guided by an ancient commitment to uphold the bodhisattva vow: a promise made by practitioners to “save all sentient beings.” Yet many Zen interactions playfully challenge this dualistic categorization of consciousness, and countless Zen texts celebrate the importance of “rocks, tiles, and trees” in our own awakening. During this outdoor experiential workshop, Anthony Nentetsu Yuschak will guide participants through an exploration of our relationship with “insentient beings” in the hope of opening new possibilities along our shared bodhisattva path. Activities will include seated and walking meditation, group discussion, a guided investigation of the natural surroundings, written reflection, and more.

This workshop will take place at Newlin Gristmill Park (219 S. Cheyney Road, Glen Mills, PA) and will include moderate walking on grass and natural surface trails. To join us on Oct. 11, please complete your registration no later than Oct. 9. Registrants who express interest in carpooling to the event will be contacted separately. The suggested donation for this event is $30 for members and $35 for non-members. Payment can be made in cash or check (payable to “Soji: Dedicated to the Study of Soto Zen Buddhism, Inc.”) or through PayPal.
