An Evening with Ben Connelly
Tuesday, October 7 | 7:00 p.m.
Register today to join Soji Zen Center in welcoming Ben Connelly for an evening of exploration into the themes of interdependence, social engagement, and abundance expressed in Flower Garland Buddhism. Ben, a Soto Zen teacher and dharma heir in the Katagiri lineage, will be discussing his most recent work, Inside the Flower Garland Sutra: Huayan Buddhism and the Modern World. Ben will set aside time to sign books after the event, and copies of his work will be available for purchase at Soji.
Arising during the sixth century in China, Huayan Buddhism is rooted in the Mahayana Flower Garland Sutra. Its emphasis on interdependence, celebration of the sensual world, and diversity of people and practices provides inspiration for what Thich Nhat Hanh called “engaged Buddhism.” Join us as Ben explains the significance of Huayan teachings for Buddhist practice and discusses their practical implications for contemporary life.
Please register to attend this event by completing the registration form by October 6. A suggested donation of $10 can be made at the center in cash or by check (“Soji: Dedicated to the Study of Zen Buddhism, Inc.”), or through PayPal. Online participants will be sent a Zoom link prior to the event.
