Rohatsu
Sunday, December 7
7:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Rohatsu is the traditional commemoration of the historical Buddha’s enlightenment. When he looked up at the morning star, the Buddha received that brightness with the same eyes of zazen [sitting meditation] that enable us to realize perfect enlightenment. From within this state of mind the Buddha said:
How wondrous, how wondrous! All beings are endowed with this pure nature! What a wondrous, astonishing thing has been realized! All the ten thousand things, all the flowers, all the trees, all the rocks, all things everywhere are shining brilliantly! What an amazing thing! It’s the same landscape, but how brilliantly it is illuminated! What freshness is everything!
Join Ango Sensei and the Soji sangha for an evening of meditation, deep practice, and gratitude. The evening will include zazen and a late night dharma talk given by Ango Sensei. We encourage you to directly engage in this rare opportunity to cultivate your aspiration for awakening.
This event is a hybrid offering, available both in person at Soji and online. To attend, please complete the linked registration form. A Zoom link will be provided to participants who register for online attendance. A suggested donation ($10 for members, $15 for non-Members) can be offered by cash or check (made payable to “Soji: Dedicated to the Study of Soto Zen Buddhism, Inc.”) or through PayPal.
