Soji’s Summer Sesshin

Boundlessness Here and Now

June 21-June 26, 2024

Sesshin is a period of immersive residential Zen practice that offers an opportunity to deepen our meditation and focus our attention in a space of stillness and energy. The word sesshin means gathering the heart-mind-it is literally a time to “collect ourselves.” Receiving teachings in an environment of retreat can bring about a profound transformation in our being and open the possibility of looking at ourselves, our lives and the world around us with a fresh perspective. Each day will include zazen, chanting, private interviews and dharma talks. We encourage all members and those who are interested in the experience of sustained practice to join us for our summer sesshin as we take up a theme of boundlessness and study the wisdom of the Heart Sutra.

Our study text will be The Heart Sutra: A Comprehensive Guide to the Classic of Mahayana Buddhism by Kazuaki Tanahashi. “Being free of attainment, those who help all to awaken abide in the realization of wisdom beyond wisdom and live with an unhindered mind.” The book is available on Amazon.

The sesshin will begin on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 4:00 pm at St. Raphaela Center and end on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 1:00 pm. There are 3 ways to attend the sesshin; A) Full Retreat (6/21-26); B) Partial Retreat (6/21-24); and/or C) Partial Retreat (6/23-6/26). Please fill out the registration form and make your payment via check or money order to: Soji: Dedicated to the Study of Zen Buddhism Inc. (preferred method) or at PayPal.
